Update 1.35.1: Arcade Update

Hello all,

In this update, we have added three new arcade maps by pale1 to explore new types of gameplay in GunColony. We have also added new kill icons to the PVP gamemode.

 

NEW MAP: POOL ROOMS

Pool Room is a new arcade-style PVP map by GunColonist! Available in FFA, Arms Race, One in the Chamber, and FFA (NoobTubes Scenario).

Note: all new maps will have a temporary 3X increase in map vote appear chance.

 

NEW MAP: SUPERDOME

Superdome is a new Mine-Spades map by GunColonist. Available on Mine-Spades King of the Hill, Mine-Spades Domination, and ProSnipe Scenario.

 

NEW MAP: PRO SPLASH

ProSplash is a new arcade-style PVP map by GunColonist with a compact layout for lighthearted matches. It is available in FFA, TDM, Arms Race, One in the Chamber, and Elimination.

 

 

NEW KILL ICONS

We have added two new kill icons and XP rewards to GunColony’s PVP gamemodes:

  • Blinded (+10 XP): triggers when you get a kill while blinded by a Flashbang.
  • No-Scope (+5 XP): triggers when you get a kill with a Sniper Rifle without any aiming progress. Happy Scouting!

OTHER CHANGES

  • The FishColony fishing rod in hub is now unbreakable
  • We have added a new internal backend feature in the Place engine to live-reload game objects, allowing us to update gameplay behavior in GunColony without restarting the server.
    • This is the first time we can reload code-based gameplay behavior in GunColony without a restart in at least 8-9 years. (The last time we were able to do this was in Minecraft 1.8 when our plugins were still simple enough to be fully reloaded via Bukkit’s native plugin reload features.)
    • This new feature is made possible by the modularity of the Place Game Objects system. Internally, we are able to load new Place module JARs and then swap out a game object’s runtime behavior without changing the object reference itself.
    • Currently, this feature lets us reload Quests on the new Place system in GunColony without needing a server restart – even if the quests use custom logic implemented via Kotlin code.
    • In the future, we will be able to reload any gameplay behavior in GunColony and the standalone game without restarting the server, once the server codebase has been fully migrated to Place. This lets us perform updates twithout any interruptions to gameplay (even mid-match), provided that they do not require a core engine change.
    • Please let us know if you encounter any issues with Quests after this change!

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a major bug where if a player leaves an ongoing Mob-Arena match and then joins again, thus getting placed into the spectator area without a kit equipped, then deals the final blow to a boss as a spectator using the new “Ghost Gun” feature, the whole arena breaks and enters an inconsistent state, causing various downstream errors
