Update 1.24.1: Mob-Arena Map Update

Hello all,

We have released an update that includes 3 new Mob-Arena map remakes by Hotline_101, as well as a new community-made PVP map.

 

OVERHAULED MOB-ARENA MAP: SAFEHOUSE

The Safehouse Mob-Arena map has been updated with a brand new premise! Defend a house against hordes of mobs who will attempt to climb up its walls to reach those inside! With a very limited play area and new zombie-focused enemies, players will have to strike a balance between defending the exterior and interior of the building in order to survive until the last wave.

  • The number of waves in the map has been doubled
  • Newly re-imagined mobs split into several different types of waves that differ greatly in tempo!

OVERHAULED MOB-ARENA MAP: MINESHAFT

Fight in the classic Mineshaft map, now with an updated look and much more bug-free gameplay!

  • Updated mob spawning to be less buggy & more challenging!
  • Fixed issues where players could get stuck in mid-air in the previous version of the map

OVERHAULED MOB-ARENA MAP: HANGAR

“We are a little short of space marines, so you foot soldiers are dropped into the great land of demons instead! Good luck!”

Hangar has been updated with a new look and modernized waves, making it even more worthy of being the hardest map in GunColony!

  • The map has been modernized with new blocks by Hotline_101
  • Layout adjusted to fix mob pathing issues and potential map escapes
  • The Ghast boss now spawns in the center of the map, making it a greater challenge for players
  • A mini-boss boss in the map files that was not previously working before is working now, and placed at Wave 30
  • The Arch Vile boss is moved to Wave 50 (the end of the Normal difficulty), and converted into a regular boss rather than mini-boss, so you now have to defeat it to win the map
  • Added a new final boss for the Expert difficulty! It is unique for being the only boss in GunColony where you fight it alone without any other mobs spawning during the wave!
    • While very challenging regardless of the amount of players in the lobby, it is still designed to be possible to defeat even when playing solo.

COMMUNITY PVP MAPS

We previously mentioned during the 9th Anniversary Update that this year will see an increased focus on community participation and content in the server. To make true on this promise, today we are adding our first community-made map of the year to the GunColony PVP playlist!

From now on, we aim to regularly add new maps made by the GunColony community to the server. Considering that we do not expect community members to have the same building skills as our staff team with years of experience, community maps in GunColony will have a lower standard of visual quality compared to official maps. However, we expect them to improve the server by bringing new innovation and variety to map layouts and gameplay. Community maps will not always be kept in the playlist long-term, and our current plan is to have a community voting system to determine whether a community map should stay in the pool in future updates.

Note that we currently do not have technical infrastructure in place to add community maps to GunColony as easily as official maps made by staff members, but we hope to change this in the future by the introduction of new content systems in the Place engine.

COMMUNITY PAP MAP: GARRISON

Garrison is our first community map made by BozoPlaysMC! It is set in a desert training camp and provides a unique layout with a mix of long-range sightlines and close-quarters areas. It is available in TDM, FFA, King of the Hill, and Demolition.

MOB-ARENA CHANGES

  • Adjusted spawn distance algorithm
    • Adjusted the formula for the minimum distance from players where a mob can spawn.
      • The old formula was max( 8, (map diagonal size) * 0.12); the new formula is 2 * sqrt(map diagonal size).
      • This means that mobs should now spawn closer to players in maps above 100 blocks in size, fixing some issues especially with Hangar which is now considered by the game as a very large map

MOB-ARENA QUESTS

  • A new Mob-Arena quest with Normal and Expert variants has been added to the game!

OTHER CHANGES

  • Added a new tag “Community Map” to represent maps made by the community in the PVP map vote

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug introduced in the last update where newly joining players in Competitive were not put into spectator mode as intended, but instead spawned in Adventure mode with no items
  • Fixed a bug where the Divine and Steady Breath perks did not use the correct icon and color for their new supply cost
  • Fixed a bug where arrows could bounce off mobs and hit yourself when using bows and crossbows in Mob-Arena, often resulting in death
