Update 1.29: Armageddon Update

JUN 23 2025

Hello all,

In this update, we revisit the Cold War by launching remodels for Soviet and Western weapons of the era, implementing improvements to Hyperburst weapons (G11 & AN-94), and adding a limited-time Nuketown Scenario playlist available on multiple maps that features weapons from Warsaw Pact and NATO. In addition, we reworked the classic Hangar map to improve its playability, and also launched many important fixes that we have been hard at work implementing since the 10th Anniversary, which improve the ability of players to access the server.

NEW WEAPON REMODELS

In this update, we have updated the models for a variety of WW2 and Cold War-era Soviet weapons, as well as the West German G11 rifle.

Mosin-Nagant

The Mosin-Nagant was Russia’s primary infantry rifle during WWI as well as the Soviet infantry rifle during WWII.

Thanks CrishTheCreator for making the model for Mosin-Nagant, Mosin-Nagant Scoped, SVT-40, SKS, Obrez, SVD, and G11.

Mosin-Nagant Scoped

Mosin-Nagant with a 3.4x PU scope.

Obrez

A crudely cut-down Mosin-Nagant used in partisan operations, available in the pistol category.

SVT-40

A Soviet full length semi-automatic rifle manufactured during World War II.

SKS

A Soviet semi-automatic rifle and the first mass-manufactured weapon firing the intermediate 7.62x39mm caliber.

TT-33

The TT-33 is a WWII Scenario weapon and previously did not have a unique model. Thanks dxc for making the model.

G11

A West German rifle developed during the late Cold War, known for its unique design featuring caseless ammunition and a three-round hyperburst mode.

HYPERBURST RECOIL DELAY

In this update, we decided to improve the Hyperburst feature of two classic Cold War weapons: G11 and AN-94. They now have a slight delay in the time it takes for view recoil to kick in in Burst mode, allowing their realistic Hyperburst design to be simulated in-game, where all 2-3 shots in the burst will land at close to the same spot without needing manual recoil compensation. The G11 has a slightly longer recoil delay than the AN-94 to account for the fact that it fires 3 shots per burst instead of 2.

Note that random recoil still applies between the shots in a burst – therefore, recoil stabilization will still affect how tight the cluster of shots will be in Burstfire mode. The auto and semi modes have not been changed in this update. The AN-94 auto mode will be made more realistic in a future update once we make our gun system more flexible through scripting support.

Note that while the IWI Carmel has had a 2-round burst mechanic in-game similarly to the AN-94, it was not changed in this update since it is not a hyper-burst weapon. This update should thus improve the in-game differentiation between the two weapons.

BALANCE CHANGES

We have added general balance changes to the server based on player feedback.

  • SCAR-Light: horizontal recoil increased by about 20%
    • The SCAR-Light was previously just a tad too accurate and crowded out other long-range assault rifles. The weapon will continue to have a very controllable recoil pattern after the update and retain an accuracy advantage over comparable weapons like the AK-74M, AUG, and G36 in line with its lower rate of fire, but it won’t be as extreme as before.
  • L86: increased supply cost by 1
    • The L86 is extremely solid in long range combat and we may have buffed the weapon a little too much during the last last supply cost reduction alongside the rest of the LMGs.
  • Gewehr 98: close damage range increased by 12.5%
    • This should improve the Gewehr 98’s main strength compared to the K98k and make it a more competitive alternative.
  • DP-12: reduced recoil by 9%; reload time reduced 0.55s -> 0.5s; added burst-fire mode (identical mechanic to the Mossberg OU)
    • The DP-12 has been buffed to make it easier to land shots as well as add a burst-fire mode to make its power comparable to other double-barreled shotguns. The slight reload speed boost should help compound the advantage of its large magazine.
  • KSG-15: reload time reduced 0.5s -> 0.45s
    • Similarly to the DP-12, the reload time reduction should give the KSG-15 a unique selling point compared to other shotguns due to its ammo capacity.
  • QSZ-92: hipfire spread reduced by 35%; movement inaccuracy reduced by 50%
    • The QSZ-92 was previously designed to be a “budget Five-SeveN” but was underpowered in too many ways to fill the role properly. We have decided to give the QSZ-92 a new unique niche by boosting its hipfire accuracy, making it the favorite for players who want an adaptable and accurate pistol at the expense of raw power.
  • FMG-9: reduced both view recoil and random recoil by about 15%
    • The FMG-9 was too inaccurate even by the standards of an auto-pistol. The user will now be adequately rewarded with high close-range damage potential at a decent accuracy if they can design their loadout around the weapon’s drawbacks.
  • MP 443: increased rate of fire from 350 to 500; increased headshot damage modifier from 2.75 -> 2.8; reduced movement inaccuracy by 25%
    • For a weapon originally designed to emulate stats of the Tec-9 from modern CS, the MP 443 had too low of a fire rate to properly fill this role. This should now be fixed with the latest change, making the MP 443 a unique contender to other pistols at its price point.
  • YC9: increased rate of fire from 285 to 300
    • The YC9 is now the highest fire-rate starter pistol (alongside a headshot damage advantage compared to the G18 and XD) to make up for having the lowest capacity.
  • P2000: reduced random recoil by approximately 20%; increased percentage of recoil that re-centers after each shot from 80% to 90%.
    • The P2000 is being specialized for having the highest accuracy in the starter pistol category, giving it a unique advantage compared to the G18 and XD. Updated description to reflect this
  • USP: now recovers 0.75x recoil after each shot compared to 1.0x (note that the number is further reduced with quick consecutive shots)
    • This change should reduce the USP’s overall accuracy and put it on more even footing with other starter pistols.
  • Mauser: reduced supply cost from 3 -> 2
    • This should put the Mauser in the same comparison class as the Skorpion rather than the CZ-75 Auto, a comparatively fairer fight given the Mauser’s low ammo capacity.

LIMITED-TIME PLAYLIST: NUKETOWN!

With the new remodels to Soviet weapons and the G11, the Nuketown playlist is now available as a limited-time scenario, allowing players to try most of the new weapon remodels in a “cold war gone hot” setting!

  • Nuketown Scenario is available in a variety of Cold War-themed maps for a limited time!
  • Fight with NATO and Warsaw Pact weapons, including experimental weapons like the G11!
  • Blue and Red teams are now swapped so that the Reds are actually on the red team
  • The M1911 on the Red team has been replaced with the TT-33
  • The Double Barrel on the Red team has been replaced with the Obrez

While we have added this playlist for entertainment in a video game, we are glad that the fears of a hot cold war are all but a distant memory in the real world. After all, the number of countries with functional nuclear programs has only been decreasing lately.

MOB-ARENA HANGAR REWORK!

In this update, we have reworked the hardest Mob-Arena map in the server, Hangar. These changes are focused on reworking mobs that spawn in the map. Thanks Rijam for making the changes.

We expect viable strategies in this map to become more diverse due to reworking unfair mobs like Revenants (which previously required the use of specific kits to counter), but it still requires perfect mastery of the game’s mechanics to achieve victory!

  • Zombieman, Shotgunner, Chaingunner, Z-Sec:
    • You can now damage these mobs from any distance. Previously, they were invincible when more than 24 blocks away.
  • Chaingunner:
    • now properly stands still while attacking
  • Revenant:
    • reduced health from 200 -> 150
    • considerably reduced movement speed
    • reduced melee attack damage 8 -> 6
    • Revenants are now able to shoot powerful homing missiles again
  • Arch Vile (boss):
    • added iron armor
    • now stands still for longer when performing its ranged attack

HANGAR QUESTS

We have brought back the Hangar Mob-Arena quests due to the new mobs rework. The rewards are the same as the map’s previous rework less than a year ago, but you get to earn them again. Defeat Hangar on Expert difficulty for a sizable reward!

MINECRAFT 1.21.6 SUPPORT

We have launched support for clients on the new Minecraft version 1.21.6. No resource pack changes were needed for this update.

PLAYLIST CHANGES

  • Added Nuketown Scenario playlist
  • Enabled GroundWarTM playlist because airstrikes are fun
  • Removed the Fighter Jet playlists
  • Removed Pearl playlist from COMP (it was missed in the last update)
  • The special AA-12 has been removed from Axis in AtlanticWall. We really expected the weapon to be in the game for a lot longer, but now you just have to be satisfied with the OP scenario musket instead.

BUG FIXES

We have focused our efforts immediately after our 10th Anniversary to cleaning up a few remaining critical bugs in GunColony, alongside the usual smaller bug fixes. Note that some of the fixes were added over the course of the last two weeks and they were not all added today.

  • Fixed a severe long-standing bug where starting a PVP/Competitive match resulted in game freezing for Minecraft 1.21+ clients. It should now be safe to play on GunColony using the latest Minecraft versions
    • This consisted of two separate fixes. A survey we conducted on Discord suggested the issue was not fully fixed after the first fix. If you still encounter the issue now, please report it on Discord.
  • Fixed a long-standing bug where players that attempt to join a server while it is starting up sometimes led to the server holding a “ghost” player data lock, resulting in the player being unable to play on GunColony until the server is restarted
    • Now it is still possible for the error to occur IF the server did not stop gracefully (e.g. the plugin files were updated before the server restart), but it should fix itself within a few minutes correctly as stated in the error message. In other cases the issue should be fully fixed.
  • Fixed a bug where Discord linking can encounter an error for players with certain Discord account attributes due to unexpected data format from Discord’s JSON response. (Thanks farkeystix)
  • Fixed a bug where the “HUB” chat prefix was missing a space after it
  • Fixed a bug where publishing a map in StaffBuild that was already published and had some authors set up besides the map owner would result in an error
  • Fixed a bug where the Sawed-Off Barrel modification was missing the intended bullet velocity penalty (Thanks heroninja)
  • Fixed a bug where the Villa map was missing player spawnpoints
  • Fixed a bug where the Obrez had more backup ammo than intended in Mob-Arena (was 256, now 120 like the Mosin)
