Update 1.27.3: Range Day

Hello all,

Today we have released an update containing a new map, a new seasonal map, a seasonal playlist, as well as fixes to playlists and weapon-related bugs and stability improvements to the server.

NEW MAP: FIRING RANGE

Firing Range is a classic Black Ops map featuring close-to-medium-range engagement distances, built by Mohorowe. It is available in Team Deathmatch (6-12 players), Domination (8-16 players), and Zombie Siege (12-20 players).

NEW MAP: POOL DAY SUMMER

A summer seasonal variant of Pool Day built by pale1. It contains minor summer-themed decorations and a significantly expanded playable area compared to the regular Pool Day layout, with minor new destructible elements added to the map. This map will be available seasonally and is playable in FFA (4-10 players) and TDM Random Spawns (6-16 players).

NEW LIMITED TIME PLAYLIST: PEARL

Play all regular PVP modes with ender pearls! I wonder where we got the idea from. Available for a limited time.

  • Added Pearl playlist to PVP
    • Includes all maps from playlists: TDM, TDM Random Spawns, FFA, KOTH, Domination, Arms Race, Mine-Spades, Scenarios, Community Maps
    • 10% chance to appear compared to regular maps
  • Added Pearl playlist to Competitive
    • Includes only Defusal maps, including the CS2 Scenario
    • 10% chance to appear compared to regular maps
    • Just might be very T-sided
  • Both playlists also include NoFallDamage mutator to eliminate the teleportation damage

PLAYLIST CHANGES

  • Removed the Easter playlist
  • Fixed DustPCG Domination having an overly narrow player count range (changed from 8-10 players to 8-16 players)
  • Fixed PoolDay Zombie Siege being the regular version instead of the special Zombie Siege version
    • The layout should be the intended big layout now, but this layout is still different from the PoolDaySummer layout

OTHER CHANGES

  • Added a message that will be sent to Minecraft 1.21.2+ players who join the PVP match to inform them of the potential issue with PVP game freezes that we are aware of.
    • The message recommend them to switch to an older version such as Minecraft 1.20.x if the issue occurs
  • Evaluated some minor feedback from the staff team but decided to not implement changes for now:
    • Small magazines for weapons like the M1915/CheyTac: appear to be balanced considering opportunity cost of a modification slot
    • KOTH round draw time when no one takes the objective: the current 3 minutes seems long enough for one team to take the hill even on large maps (perhaps if no one goes for the hill, the issue may instead be the map design or insufficient reward for taking objectives)

UPDATE TOOLING IMPROVEMENTS

In the past week, we have been hard at work improving the tooling we use to release new updates. The goal is to be able to perform various small tasks related to updates a lot faster than before, in order to fit our new update schedule and give us the ability to release small updates at frequent intervals to the server.

  • Created a comprehensive, flexible config uploading system that allows us to edit configs locally and then push them to the test server or live server. This removes the need to use a SFTP client to edit server configs and copy configs manually between servers when preparing, testing and deploying an update
    • The system supports uploading each config file or folder only to a certain subset of servers depending on customizable rules
  • Included server MOTD and hologram configs in the config uploading system
    • These two config files need to be edited on every server update and this new uploading capability should make the process a lot faster

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a major issue where the StaffBuild server’s memory allocation was set incorrectly, causing random crashes leading to building progress loss
  • Fixed memory allocation for the main server as well which may have caused lag due to consuming excessive amounts of RAM and forcing pagefile usage on the server machine
  • Updated proxy server which may bring about stability improvements
  • Fixed some issues in the gun config caused by duplicate keys (the improved linter in the new local config editing system has allowed us to detect them)
    • The MP5KA4 should no longer have access to the Sawed Off Barrel modification, as intended
    • The Mob-Arena RPG-7 and HK69A1 now correctly prevents aiming down sights for a while after firing, similarly to bolt-action sniper rifles
