Update 1.18: Halloween Update

Hello all,

Happy Halloween! To celebrate the holiday, we have added a grand total of 5 maps, including a complete overhaul to our classic spooky Mob-Arena map, Graveyard. We have also added new features in our mapping tools, as well as a myriad of balance changes to dozens of weapons.

MOB-ARENA MAP OVERHAUL: GRAVEYARD

First introduced in 2016, the Mob-Arena Graveyard map has now received a complete overhaul, created by Mohorowe.

The new map features a much larger and more varied terrain filled with Halloween decorations, but keeps many gameplay elements of the original map, including a central hedge wall, water pools, and fenced-in areas. Familiar enemy types and bosses have been reimagined with two new Mob-Arena game mechanics introduced in this update.

NEW MAP: REPECHAGE

Repechage is a new PVP and Competitive map set on a skyscraper rooftop, featuring a symmetric, close-quarters layout and a few destructible wooden windows for high-paced combat. It is built by dxc and Montymarks and available on TDM, Kill Confirmed, Domination, Arms Race, and Elimination.

NEW MAP: BELL TOWER

BellTower is a new PVP and Competitive map created by tarakan2003 and set in an Italian town. It features many lanes and spread out bombsites that could prove difficult to defend, but in return gives the Blue Team higher than average time to prepare a defense. Available on Defusal and TDM Random Spawns.

NEW MAP: HIGH NOON

HighNoon is a new large-scale PVP and Competitive map set in the Wild West, built by James_4007. It is available in a unique high-player-count FFA gamemode, the first in GunColony. It also has a smaller layout in the Elimination mode where the two teams are challenged to a duel in a small town but do not have to stay inside it!

NEW MAP: KERNEL

Kernel is a new PVP and Competitive map built by Mohorowe. It is available in the Domination, One in the Chamber, and Defusal modes.

NEW MOB-ARENA FEATURES

Two new features have been added in this update to the map creation system. They are both used in the newly reworked Mob-Arena map, Graveyard.

  • Teleport Mob Drops: Builders may now define areas in the map where mob drops are teleported to their killer’s inventory (except for ammo for balance reasons). This is useful for creating areas that only mobs are able to access and not players, without players losing access to valuable loot.
  • Jump Pads: builders may now define areas in the map to be Jump Pads. This works in both PVP and Mob-Arena. Jump Pads can have any shape and can also be set to only affect mobs, not players. In the Graveyard map, they are used as a “conveyor” to ensure that mobs are pushed into the playable region when they spawn in areas where they have problems pathfinding towards players.

HALLOWEEN QUESTS

We have added two new Halloween Quests! They can be completed by beating the new Graveyard map on Normal and Expert difficulty, respectively, and getting a certain number of mob kills.

Completing the Expert Mode quest will grant the Mac-10 | Halloween weapon skin, which is only obtainable during Halloween.

BALANCE CHANGES

  • CZ75-Auto: increased backup ammo from 16 -> 32; slightly improved recoil stabilization
    • The CZ75 now has fewer drawbacks compared to the Skorpion and should be a more attractive option for players looking for a powerful secondary weapon.
  • FMG-9: increased backup ammo from 33 -> 66
    • The FMG-9 has also been improved to become a more well-rounded weapon that can serve as a pocket SMG.
  • Mauser C-96: increased backup ammo from 50 -> 60
  • 7.62x51mm Duplex Ammo: fixed a bug where the bullet velocity penalty was not being applied
    • This bug caused the Duplex Ammo to be stronger than intended on sniper rifles such as the SSG08 and M40A1
  • Lee Enfield: increased rate of fire 75 -> 90
    • The Lee Enfield is still overshadowed by semi-automatic marksman rifles and has been buffed further to make it more forgiving and fulfill a middle ground between marksman rifles and sniper rifles.
  • Thunder .50 BMG: reduced kill award 300 -> 100 (matches other one shot kill snipers)
  • M4A1: massively increased movement inaccuracy by 50% while using the suppressor
    • Typically suppressed weapons should have increased movement inaccuracy, but this was not true with the M4A1. This nerf should rein in the M4A1’s power as an extremely versatile weapon.
    • Note: the new movement inaccuracy is still lower than that of the Honey Badger, a similar weapon to the M4A1.
  • XM8: increased supply cost by 1; increased movement speed 91% -> 93%; increased aim down sights speed; slightly improved movement accuracy
    • We noticed that there are 3 scoped assault rifles with the exact same price, so we have reworked the XM8 to make it a little more distinct as a mobile scoped rifle.
  • G36: slightly decreased movement speed; slightly increased spread recovery rate
    • The G36 is similarly receiving a very small rework to reinforce its identity as a heavy and accurate scoped rifle.
  • G11: increased backup ammo from 150 -> 200 in PVP, and base backup ammo from 250 -> 400 in MA
    • We are doubling down on G11’s real life strength in its caseless ammo type by providing more backup ammo in-game. The G11 should be a good niche weapon when endurance is more important than close-range performance.
  • AK-103: decreased supply cost by 2
    • The AK-103 is more of a sidegrade to the AK-47 than an upgrade and so has received a significant supply cost buff to reflect this. We may make further changes if this is not enough to balance out the situation.
  • FAMAS: fixed burst-mode to properly decrease hipfire spread rather than increasing it
    • This was caused by the previous hipfire buff not taking into account of the burst-mode spread
  • MP40: increased headshot damage multiplier from 3.3x to 3.4x
  • Remington 887: decreased supply cost by 1
  • DP-12: decreased supply cost by 1; reduced horizontal recoil significantly; slightly improved hipfire accuracy
    • The DP-12 is overshadowed by semi-automatic shotguns especially after the recent hipfire update, which made it much harder to hit two accurate shots in hipfire with this weapon. The weapon has received a buff to make it more competitive.
  • SPAS-12: increased supply cost by 2
    • The SPAS-12 is an incredibly powerful weapon up close and warrants a higher price to keep it in check.
  • Crossbow: swap time 1.0s -> 0.6s; movement speed 88% -> 98%
    • As a lighter weight alternative to a sniper rifle, the Crossbow has now gained much greater swap speed and mobility. This should justify its relatively higher price than other weapons like slug shotguns.
  • High Voltage Gloves: movement speed 96% -> 100%
    • This weapon now gains the ability to let its user move as fast as using the Knife.
  • Fire Launcher: increased rate of fire within a burst, and decreased burst delay

DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS UPDATE

We have significantly improved the stability of the new player data system in the Place engine. It is still not quite ready and we are battling some driver-level instability that might require a backend overhaul to fix. We are also starting to use the Place engine’s library and types in the new server features introduced in this update.

OTHER CHANGES

  • The warning about Jittery Movement below MC 1.19.3 will now only show up for the lobby server
  • The M3 Grease Gun has been changed from the Gang class to the Overlord class
    • The gun didn’t even exist in the 1920’s anyway
  • Try to prevent griefing of backup MobArena maps on the main server
  • Removed money and XP reward for clearing “Wave 0” in Mob-Arena
  • Added bonus GhostGulag scenario in tiny Shipment map
  • The Airsoft and LaserOnly playlists proved popular and will stay in the game until the next update

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where spawns and objectives were missing on the ShootHouse map, causing it to be broken in-game
  • Fixed a bug where the Cinder map added in the previous update had a 6-12 player TDM playlist instead of the intended 6-12 player FFA playlist
